Manufacturing NI sits on the regional planning committee for Apprenticeship Week which will be held on 6th-10th February 2023. We would like to encourage manufacturers to hosts events or activities to coincide with this week. Some examples include;
* Social media activity highlighting the role of apprenticeships in the organisation w/ role models

* Job sampling / apprenticeship talks / job fairs
* School site visits / open days

Search begins for new board members for the Labour Relations Agency
The Department for the Economy (DfE) has launched a public appointment competition to recruit four new board members to the board of the Labour Relations Agency (LRA).

The LRA is a non-departmental public body with responsibility for promoting the improvement of employment relations in Northern Ireland. The LRA contributes to organisational effectiveness by providing impartial and independent services for promoting good employment practices and preventing and resolving disputes.

The Department wishes to appeal to people of all ages from a wide range of backgrounds and experience across the community, voluntary, business or public sector, who can bring a wide range of skills and experience to the role. DfE would particularly welcome applications from females, people with a disability, those from minority ethnic communities and young people, as they are currently under-represented on the board. The Department is operating a Guaranteed Interview Scheme in this competition for applicants with a disability.

This competition will be of particular interest to people who wish to develop their skills as part of a board and are willing to learn. Previous experience of serving on a board is not necessary as new appointees will undergo an induction programme, as well as being offered peer support.

The rate of remuneration for the LRA board members is £5,643 per annum, for which they will be required to attend the monthly board meeting and undertake other occasional duties on behalf of the LRA. Ambition to Grow
Ambition to Grow is Invest NI's exciting new regionally focused competition aimed at innovative, ambitious businesses is now open for applications.

40 spaces are available and successful applicants will be eligible to apply for funding up to a maximum of £45,000, broken down as follows:
* £5,000 per new job (a minimum of three) created over and above existing employment levels within the business (to a maximum of £30,000).
* £10,000 towards business development activities, where the amount of support provided shall be no more than 50% of the cost eligible activities listed in the application.
* £5,000 on the completion of an export health check and development of an export plan, to the satisfaction of Invest NI.

This initiative has been designed with businesses which are not currently Invest NI client managed customers in mind, and it is anticipated to be extremely beneficial to businesses throughout Northern Ireland.

NI Apprenticeship Awards 2023 Launched
Nominations are now being sought for the prestigious NIAA2023.
The NIAA2023 will recognise and showcase excellence and best practice in the participation and delivery of Apprenticeships. Finalists will be selected and invited to a special awards ceremony on Wednesday 29th March 2023.
These awards honour:
* Valued Apprentices who are making a significant contribution to their workplace and have shown a dedication to excel in their professional development and learning;
* Influential partnerships between Employers and Training Providers that support the continuous growth of skills development in Northern Ireland; and,
* For the first year, Mentors who provide an outstanding contribution to the Apprenticeship programmes.

Applications are now open for five award categories:
* Apprentice Award (Levels 2-3);
* Higher Level Apprentice Award (Level 4+);
* Large Employer in partnership with a Training Provider Award (employers with more than 250 employees);
* Small to Medium-sized Enterprise in partnership with a Training Provider Award (employers with less than 250 employees); and,
* Outstanding Mentor Award.

All nominees for the Apprentice and Higher Level Apprentice Awards must have been on the ApprenticeshipsNI or Higher Level Apprenticeship Programme in 2022.

2022 North West Annual Future of Energy Conference

The Live Music Support Scheme (LMSS) funding has been extended to the end of October to take account of the restrictions that currently remain in place for the live events sector. The extension is one of the measures announced today by Catherine Martin, Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht Sport and Media. To support the industry through this difficult period the Minister has to date allocated €61.5m for a suite of measures designed to sustain and support the sector, including: €25m Live Performance Support Scheme €14m Music and Entertainment Business Support Scheme €11.5m Event Sector Covid Support Scheme (funded via transfer from D/ETE Vote) €5m Local Authority Performance Support Scheme €5m Capital Support Scheme €1m Patricks Day Festival Today, Minister Martin reaffirmed her commitment to the full return of all live entertainment at the earliest possible date, having regard to public health developments, and has announced the following measures: An extension to the deadline for using the LPSS (Live Performance Support Scheme) funding to end October, to take account of the fact that restrictions remain in place for the live events sector. A new strand of funding for the MEBAS (Music and Entertainment Business Assistance Scheme) for businesses with turnovers of between €15,000 and €20,000. This stream will provide grants of €1,500 for businesses who had business costs of at least €2,000 between 1 April 2020 and 31 May 2021.  The portal for applications will open during August and stay open until the end of September. In addition to these adaptations to existing schemes, Minister Martin is working with her Cabinet colleagues to provide certainty for the sector around a reopening plan at the earliest possible date. To this end, and following the opening of indoor hospitality which she has led on with An Tánaiste, Leo Varadkar, T.D., she has written to the Minister for Health and the Expert Working Group on Rapid Testing to establish if the Digital Covid Certificate, PCR testing and/or Antigen testing could play a role in the reopening of the live entertainment sector.  Commenting on the sector more generally, Minister Martin said "I am acutely aware of the devastating impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the live entertainment sector. The things we love and dearly miss like live concerts, plays, festivals etc. involve congregation and unfortunately COVID thrives in that environment. This has necessitated significant restrictions on live entertainment to protect public health. I have engaged with numerous stakeholders in the sector and listened and understand how distressing this extended period of inactivity has been for everyone involved in the live entertainment industry.  Darkened theatres, silent venues, crews and artists out of work is something I hope to bring to an end and is my number one priority". The Minister added that while the suite of supports Government has provided are welcome, she fully understands that what the sector really needs is a clear path to reopening. "In launching The Path Ahead the Government confirmed its commitment to developing a clear roadmap for a return of activities in the hardest hit sectors, including culture and arts. Government has already taken significant steps towards the full reopening of the economy and society, building on the acceleration in the vaccine roll-out," said Minister Martin.   The Minister will be working with Government colleagues, throughout August to chart a clear roadmap for the re-opening of the sector. Minister Martin added: "Ireland's vaccination take-up rate has been hugely encouraging, and this gives us cause to hope that we can welcome full audiences back in the near future. As the vaccination programme continues, I will be working with Minister Donnelly and colleagues to ascertain whether other measures, such as testing, could accelerate re-opening, and depending on the public health situation more generally, it is my hope that Government will be in a position to give a clear signal on a re-opening plan by the end of August." The Minister also noted that the new Events Sector Covid Support Scheme she launched recently, in conjunction with her colleague the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Leo Varadkar TD, will open for applications next Wednesday 4 August for application. The scheme aims to support businesses supplying services to the events and arts sectors via a contribution to business costs.
