Limerick Literary Festival launch printable version

Limerick's newest literary adventure gets underway Friday 18 July in The Pavilion, North Campus University of Limerick, when vice chairman of Limerick City of Culture 2014 Tim O'Connor performs the official launch at 5.00pm.

Tim O'Connor, who was chairman of The Gathering last year, has a keen interest in the Limerick verse and was actively involved in getting The Limerick Writers' Centre and Campus Life Services of UL to promote the form through an international competition last year. The new festival which incorporates last year's International Competition will continue the work of making Limerick and The Limerick synonymous with one another.

The official opening is followed by Limerick City of Culture writer in residence, John Liddy's launch of his ninth collection of poetry by Dr John Logan at 6.00pm. Later on at 7.30pm Limerick Person of the Year author Donal Ryan will give a reading from his work, this is a free event. The first day of activities is rounded off with a performance by the Treaty Comedy Club at 9.00pm, again a free event. All are invited to attend and enjoy a literary weekend in the beautiful surrounding of the University of Limerick. Check out www.facebook.com/limerickcompetition for full festival listing.
