Tempo Semanal Called Into Office of Prosecutor General over alleged defamation of Justice Minister

An official from the Dili prosecutions office has visited East Timor national newspaper Tempo Semanal to summons the Editor, Mr. Belo, to attend the District Dili Prosecution office for interrogation in the case of alleged defamation of the Justice Minister, Mrs. Lucia Lobato.
Regarding to Tempo Semanal investigative reporting on the allegation of corruption that involved Minister of Justice published in few months ago, yesterday (12/12/08) an official from the Dili prosecution office visited Tempo Semanal to notify the Editor of the paper and demand he attend District Dili Prosecution office for interrogation on the case of defamation on January 19th 2009. The notification letter did not mention any case but after the editor, Mr. Belo insisted, he was allowed to know the purpose of the notification. Tempo Semanal weekly paper and it's Editor are suspects and the victim is the Minister of Justice Lucia Brandao Lobato. Minister Lucia Lobato publicly announced in mid November that she made a formal complaint to the Prosecutor General office to claim reparation for her good name.
