Justice for Habib 'Paps' Ullah & Kingsley Burel
11 Jun 2011: posted by the editor - United Kingdom

On Sunday July 3rd 2011 a group campaigning about injustice will be holding the 3rd Anniversary vigil for Habib outside High Wycombe Police station between 4 and 7pm. A statement by Campaign for Justice said it is incredible to think that three years on the investigation into the death of Habib 'Paps' Ullah in a car park in the town has still not been completed. Recently his family have met the CPS and we are now aware that the police officers have been interviewed under criminal caution and the solicitor present will also be interviewed.

The group is asking supporters to join them on the 3rd of July to express support and solidarity with the family and the campaign. A flyer and a new information leaflet will be out shortly.

Since Pap's death in 2008 there have been other high profile deaths at the hands of the police such as Sean Rigg in Brixton and the Ian Tomlinson in 2009 and most recently Smiley Culture in Surrey. We have supported their families and cases. On Saturday July 2nd Habib's family and supporters will be travelling to Birmingham to support the family of Kingsley Burrell who died in suspicious circumstances after calling the police on the 31st of March 2011. There will be a March 4 Justice @12 midday on Abbey Road, Birmingham. More details here:

If you can't come to the vigils and demos above then please join the groups and ask questions about policing in your area. Those who regularly follow our campaign and the facebook page will know that there are deaths in custody occurring every week up and down the country. Lastly please sign the petition that the Smiley Culture campaign are promoting and get others to do so - it mentions Habib as well as the other notable deaths that have occurred.

Kingsley died in extremely suspicious circumstances in Birmingham. It is reported that Kingsley called the police, after trying to talk to a group of young people who were intimidating him and his 5 year old son. Kingsley was subsequently arrested and detained under the mental health act, days later he was in intensive care and subsequently died.

Message from Kedisha: (Kingsley Burrell's sister)
"I'm not just calling on ethnic minority but global majority to bridge the gap between institutionalised racism and custodial deaths.

"As a community at large we need to join forces in support of my late brother Kingsley Burrell's Campaign as one step forward in challenging current legislation. Out of many we are one strong diverse culture with strong religious beliefs. ThereforeI take this opportunity to invite one and all to take part in the March for Justice on Saturday 2nd July 2011 to be held in Birmingham.

"We owe it to ourselves to guide and protect our past present and future generations in breaking through the chains of mental and physical slaveryand I urge you all to attend in order show your support in this ongoing fight against inequalities in Great Britain."

British Justice?
The tragic death of Kingsley Burrell a young black man a father, brother and son at the hands of West Midlands Police is profoundly resonant in some ways of the policing style of South African apartheid regime, the epitome of a racist police state.
