Save Our Bus Services campaign vows to resist bus cuts
18 Aug 2011: posted by the editor - Ireland

Bus activists involved in the numbers 3, 13/13A and 19 bus campaigns will be protesting at Dublin Bus Head Office on O'Connell Street on Friday 19 August at 1pm. Residents from Larkhill, Ballymun, Glasnevin and Phibsorough will converge on Dublin Bus to make it clear to management that they will not accept any cuts or reductions to what they feel is a vital public service.

Responding to Dublin Bus management's proposal to scrap the no. 19 bus, Geraldine Gough, Glasnevin resident and Save The 19 Bus Campaign organiser, said: "This proposal will cause hardship for all parts of our community—children will have difficulty getting to school on time, older people will miss medical appointments and be further isolated within their community if this proposal goes ahead."

Killian Raynor, Save The Number 3 campaigner, stated: "The residents of Larkhill and Crestfield have seen a massive reduction in their bus service over the last two years—it has gone from one bus every fifteen minutes to one every thirty minutes. Now Dublin Bus propose to make it one bus every sixty minutes peak-time and one bus every two hours off-peak. This is unacceptable and we vow to fight it all the way. Dublin Bus should be improving the service by putting more buses on the streets of Dublin not taking them off, it's ridiculous."
