Limerick City to become Harrisville @ 01 Apr 2015
Limerick City is to change its name to Harrisville in recognition of the life of late actor and home-grown star Richard Harris.

City managers said the new name would help dispel previous bad press about the city from days gone by.

A number of possible names were put forward—including Cranberryburgh, Woganbury and McCourtham, but the most popular choice by far was Harrisville.

The change will be introduced in early June, when all road signs bearing the name Limerick and Luimneach will be changed to show Harrisville. Although the city name will change in June, it is expected that it will take several weeks before the name ‘Harrisville’ appears on train and bus destinations.
