New visitor centre approved for Ros Muc, Co. Galway
26 Jan 2015: posted by the editor - Ireland

Galway County Council has granted full planning permission for a new visitor centre adjacent to Teach an Phiarsaigh in Ros Muc.

The visitor centre at Teach an Phiarsaigh is one of seven major projects being developed as part of a €22 million capital investment, which will leave a permanent legacy from the 2016 commemorations. The other projects are the major new interpretive centre at the GPO, the upgrade of the military archives at Cathal Brugha Barracks, the refurbishment of Richmond Barracks, work on the Kevin Barry rooms at the National Concert Hall, a new visitor centre at Kilmainham Gaol and the development of the Tenement Museum.

Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Minister Heather Humphreys said: “The granting of full planning permission by Galway County Council is a very significant step forward in advancing this important project. The visitor centre will highlight the linguistic, cultural and environmental resources of this Gaeltacht area and will provide a fitting tribute to Pádraig Pearse in Ros Muc.”

She added that she was pleased that planning consent had been granted for the centre.
