Italy moves to abolish Italian Sign Language
25 May 2011: posted by the editor - Italy

A proposal to abolish the Italian Sign Language is scheduled to go before the Italian parliament this week.

During his speech in Ireland on  Monday at College Green in Dublin Barack Obama made this  Sign to the audience. Quite simply it means  “ I love you”.

Interestingly this was the second time this week that the President of Ireland and President of America communicated with an audience in Sign language. Both of them signed effortlessly to the audience. This week in Italy there is a proposal before Parliament to abolish Italian Sign Language (LIS). The Italian Deaf People have appealed to Deaf People across the world to join them in a Public Protest to-day. Irish Sign Language Supporters will hold a  Vigil to-day  in support of their  Italian Friends at the Italian Embassy, Northumberland Road,  Ballsbridge,  Dublin 4  starting at 4pm.
