Buckley's counter protest at High Court shows 'contempt for staff'
09 Sep 2014: posted by the editor - Ireland

Speaking this morning on hearing the news from the Greyhound picket line at Crag Avenue that Michael Buckely is loading staff members onto coaches in order to bring them down to the courts for a counter protest, People Before Profit councillor Tina MacVeigh said: "This is a display of utter contempt on Buckely's part for all of his workers, the striking workers in particular, but also the other 400 who he is now manipulating in a sick manouevre."

MacVeigh continued: "Dublin City Councillors received a letter from a Greyhound employee who told us she was informed by the company yesterday to seek alternative employment. So he is stressing out other workers, worrying them with unemployment while turning them against the locked out striking workers. We have heard reports that some of them appeared on the picket line last evening, shouting at the workers that it was their fault they were losing their jobs.”

"All day yesterday Buckely claimed the company is at threat of closure and the jobs of 400 workers at Greyhound are under threat. If that is the case, why does Buckely refuse to reveal the accounts of his offshore businesses? What does Greyhound have to hide other than a profitable business that refuses to pay workers a living wage?"

"So while he takes nine workers and People Before Profit Alliance councillor Gino Kenny to court with the threat of imprisonment and loss of their family home, he rallies hundreds of other workers to see them off.

“Sick and disgusting business behaviour that should be condemned by the government, workers and society as a whole.”

Cllr MacVeigh 's statements were endorsed by Dublin City People Before Profit Alliance councillors  John Lyon, Sonya Stapleton, Andrew Keegan and Brid Smith.
