The World Bank approved a $35 million concessional loan to Uzbekistan to improve access to geospatial data. The project aims to enhance the collection of information on land, facilities and infrastructure amid ongoing challenges in urban and regional development caused by outdated data. The Asian Development Bank will provide advisory support to Uzbekistan in implementing a project to engage the private sector in managing five specialized hospitals in Tashkent. Law-enforcement bodies held the Safe and Healthy Country month from 15 April to 15 May. A total of 17,300 bladed weapons and over 334 kg of drugs were seized, nearly 1,000 wanted individuals were apprehended, 383 missing persons were located and more than 190,000 traffic violations were recorded. The wall of Dishan-Kala (Outer Fortress) in Khiva will be restored and trees planted within its grounds, Ecology Ministry announced. The goal is to transform the area into a tourist destination similar to UNESCO world heritage site Ichan-Kala (Inner Fortress). The World Bank approved a $200 million loan to Uzbekistan for a project aimed at modernizing the irrigation and drainage infrastructure. The plan includes concreting 259 kilometers of eight main canals and constructing around 470 hydraulic structures across five regions, including Karakalpakstan. |
