Ann Riordan, who established Microsoft Ireland in 1990 and was instrumental in establishing the Fastrack to IT (FIT) initiative which has to date trained over 12,000 long-term unemployed people, has been appointed chairperson Of Science Foundation Ireland. She has served on the Information Society Steering Committee and the Irish Council for Science, Technology & Innovation. Since her retirement from Microsoft she has served as: President of the Institute of Directors in Ireland; Chairman of the National Standards Authority of Ireland; Chairman of Tourism Ireland; Chairman of the Dublin Regional Tourism Authority and as a public interest director of the EBS Building Society.

The Israeli Embassy in Ireland is hosting a state-sponsored ‘Made in Israel’ film and television festival. The Competition Authority has today published a study of competition in the ports sector in Ireland which found competition in port services could be improved. The study was commissioned by Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, TD, as part of the Action Plan for Jobs 2012. The study looks at how competition is working between ports and within individual ports in Ireland.
