US Ambassador to Belgium, Bill White, expelled two journalists working for The European Correspondent from the Freedom 250 celebrations in Brussels. Police briefly detained and questioned the journalists, and said they had been informed that the journalists were a security threat. Ben Grazda, Advocacy Manager, Reporters Without Borders North America, relased the following statement: “It is ludicrous that, on the anniversary of America declaring itself free from tyranny, the US Ambassador to Belgium, at his massive party for the occasion, kicked out an American and a European journalist simply for asking questions. When the reporters emailed the embassy for comment about the incident, Ambassador White personally responded: ‘Both of you are losers. Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter.‘ “Americans expect their top diplomats to at least respect the nation's founding values in their official duties.
